Josefov walking loops — Prague's old Jewish quarter

Six synagogues survive in a neighborhood that once held many more, and the Old Jewish Cemetery stacks twelve layers of burials in a space too small for its dead. The architecture above ground swings wildly — medieval religious buildings surrounded by Art Nouveau apartment blocks built during a late-nineteenth-century clearance that erased most of the original quarter. Walking through Josefov means navigating between absence and preservation, where what was removed tells as much as what remains.
