Laugavegur runs through the center like a Main Street that someone let artists redesign — colorful buildings in corrugated iron, independent shops with hand-lettered signs, wool sweaters in every third window. Harpa concert hall sits at the harbor end, its honeycomb glass facade reflecting water and cloud in constantly shifting patterns. The city center is small enough to cross in twenty minutes, which means you'll cross it several times and notice different things each pass. The wind off the harbor is constant and bracing and somehow part of the appeal.
