Walking loops in Friedrichshain, Berlin
The East Side Gallery stretches over a kilometer of Wall, painted in murals that are fading and being re-painted in an endless loop. Beyond it, Friedrichshain is raw in the way Berlin used to be everywhere — empty lots turned into bars, graffiti on every reachable surface, warehouse clubs that don't open until Saturday midnight. The Soviet-era Karl-Marx-Allee is absurdly wide, its Stalinist wedding-cake buildings now housing bubble tea shops. The contradictions are the texture.
