Walking loops in Prinsenhof, Ghent
Charles V was born here in 1500, in a palace that's mostly gone now — but the neighborhood keeps the name and the half-buried gates. It's quieter than the centre, low brick rows, the canal looping behind. A tower here, an arch there, a bakery that's been doing the same cougnous for longer than anyone remembers. Locals walk their dogs along the Lieve; tourists rarely arrive. The pace is somebody-else's-Tuesday.
