Elizabetes iela is an open-air museum of Art Nouveau excess — Mikhail Eisenstein's facades pile screaming faces, mythological figures, and floral explosions onto buildings that were apartments and still are. The concentration is staggering: over eight hundred Art Nouveau buildings in Riga, and this district holds the most extraordinary. Walking Alberta iela feels like architecture is shouting at you, beautifully. The interior museum at number 12 shows how the style extended to staircases, painted ceilings, and doorknobs.
