Walking loops in Spittelberg, Vienna
The Biedermeier lanes here are narrow and cobbled, buildings painted in pastels, and in December the Christmas market fills the streets with Gluhwein steam and the smell of roasted chestnuts. The rest of the year, Spittelberg is restaurant patios and small galleries and a neighborhood scale that feels almost village-like for central Vienna. The courtyard gardens hidden behind street-facing facades reward curiosity. On warm evenings, the entire quarter becomes an extended outdoor dining room with very good Austrian wine.
