Lycabettus Hill rises steeply from Kolonaki's cafes, and the funicular takes you to a chapel at the summit where the view extends to Piraeus and the sea. Below, the neighborhood is Athens at its most polished — designer boutiques on Voukourestiou, galleries in converted mansions, espresso priced for the area code. The plateia fills with well-dressed Athenians performing the afternoon ritual of coffee and conversation at the kind of pace that suggests nowhere else to be, which in Kolonaki is probably true.
