Walking loops in Monastiraki, Athens
The flea market spills across Avyssinia Square on Sundays — brass lamps, vinyl records, icons, someone's grandfather's worry beads. The ancient Agora sits just south, its Temple of Hephaestus almost absurdly well-preserved for something built in 450 BC. Monastiraki Square itself is the city's crossroads: metro, mosque, vendors, pigeons, tourists with maps, Athenians with purpose. The Hadrian's Library wall stands nearby, a Roman ruin absorbed by the modern city so thoroughly it feels like a design choice rather than an accident.
