Walking loops in Phoenix Park, Dublin
Larger than Central Park, larger than any enclosed city park in Europe, and populated by a herd of fallow deer who regard joggers with polite indifference. The Wellington Monument punctuates the main avenue, and the Phoenix Column stands where deer congregate at dusk. The president's residence is in here somewhere behind trees and security fences. Walking the full perimeter takes hours and crosses through terrain that shifts from formal gardens to actual woodland. Bring proper shoes.
