Walking loops in Andrássy, Budapest
The boulevard was built to rival the Champs-Elysees, and it doesn't embarrass itself — wide, tree-lined, Neo-Renaissance mansions on both sides, the Opera House anchoring the lower stretch with the confidence of a building that knows its acoustics are excellent. The House of Terror at number 60 documents fascist and communist occupations in the same building that housed both regimes' secret police, which is history as architecture. The M1 metro line runs beneath, continental Europe's oldest, its stations preserved in period yellow tile.
