Walking loops in Margaret Island, Budapest
No cars. That's the first thing you notice on Margaret Island, and the relief is immediate. The island sits in the Danube between Buda and Pest, connected by bridges at both ends, and given over entirely to parkland, a running track, medieval ruins, and a musical fountain that performs to Vivaldi. The Japanese garden is small and improbable. Thermal water surfaces in a swimming complex. Walking the full perimeter takes about an hour and crosses through several distinct moods — all of them quiet.
