The factory floors are gone, replaced by apartments with the kind of ceiling height that only repurposed industrial buildings deliver. Tampella's waterfront feels newly minted because it mostly is — but the old bones show through in brick facades and a certain broadness of scale. The lakefront path is wide and unhurried. Residents walk dogs and drink coffee where turbines once ran. There's a particular satisfaction in a neighborhood that remembers being useful and hasn't lost the habit.
