Gamla Stan walking loops — Stockholm's medieval island core
The alleys are so narrow in places that you can touch both walls simultaneously, and the buildings above lean in like they're sharing a secret. Stortorget's colored facades — mustard, terracotta, sage — form Stockholm's most photographed square, site of a medieval massacre now commemorated by a plaque near a cafe selling kanelbullar. The Nobel Museum occupies the old stock exchange, its ceiling hung with portraits. Cobblestones are murder on ankles but the medieval street grid rewards wrong turns.
