Jordaan walking loops — Amsterdam's canal-side quarter
The Jordaan's streets are narrow enough that you can hear conversations from open windows above — someone practicing piano, a dinner-table argument, a cat knocking something off a sill. Former working-class houses now hold galleries and boutiques, but the neighborhood keeps its intimate scale. The Noordermarkt on Monday mornings is serious about its organic produce, and the small bridges over side canals are perfect for standing still and watching light move on the water.
