Lavapiés walking loops — Madrid's multicultural downhill quarter
Lavapiés is Madrid's most genuinely multicultural neighborhood — Indian restaurants next to traditional tascas, African textile shops beside art galleries. The streets slope down from Sol and Tirso de Molina, and the gradient gives every walk a directional quality. La Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory, hosts self-organized art and community spaces behind an imposing facade. The Rastro flea market bleeds into the neighborhood on Sunday mornings. Nothing is curated. That's the curation.
