Walking loops in Katajanokka, Helsinki
Red brick and turrets everywhere — Katajanokka went hard on Jugend architecture around 1900 and never looked back. The buildings curve and ornament themselves like they're competing for attention, which frankly they are. Walk down to the harbor and the icebreakers sit in their berths, massive and oil-streaked, waiting for winter. That contrast is the whole neighborhood: decorative facades up the hill, working ships at the waterline. Wear shoes you can handle cobblestones in.
