Alppiharju walking loops — hills beneath Linnanmäki's coasters
The roller coaster at Linnanmäki is the neighborhood's exclamation point — you can hear it from blocks away, screams rising above the rooftops in summer. But step one street over and Alppiharju is just a hilly residential area where people walk their dogs and the corner shops haven't changed their signage since the nineties. The terrain rolls and dips, giving you unexpected sightlines between buildings. Helsinki's topography is subtle everywhere except here, where it actually makes you climb.
