Walking loops in Vallila, Helsinki
Turn off Sturenkatu and suddenly the city drops its voice. Vallila's wooden houses — some of Helsinki's last — line quiet streets with small-scale gardens that feel almost rural. In summer, the community plots along the railway tracks bloom into improbable green abundance. The rest of the neighborhood is standard Helsinki apartment blocks, but those wooden streets are a time slip. Walk them slowly. Notice the hand-painted house numbers, the leaning fences, the cat watching you from a windowsill.
