Herttoniemi is where the metro took Helsinki east in the 1980s, and the neighborhood still carries that planned-suburb energy — wide roads, spaced-out apartment towers, birch trees filling every gap. But the forest paths behind the residential blocks are genuinely wild, and Herttoniemi manor sits on its hill like a memory of a completely different era. The walk from metro station to manor to forest covers three centuries of Finnish life in about twenty minutes.
