Walking loops in Käpylä, Helsinki
The 1920s wooden houses of Käpylä are painted in colors that shouldn't work together but absolutely do — mustard yellow next to sage green next to deep red, all of it softened by decades of Finnish weather. This was Helsinki's garden city experiment, and walking the grid of small streets feels like visiting a manifesto that actually delivered on its promises. The Olympic Village blocks nearby are more severe, more concrete, a reminder of what came next. But the wooden streets remain — stubborn, bright, alive.
