The riverbank walk is Turku's living room — restaurant boats moored gunwale to gunwale, each with its own kitchen and crowd. Bridges cross at regular intervals, giving you permission to zigzag between banks. The light on the water shifts constantly, and in summer the whole city relocates to these paths. In winter, the boats stay but the crowds thin, and the river takes on a quieter authority. Walk the full length and you'll pass from cathedral to castle without once needing a map.
