Walking loops in Luostarinmäki, Turku
The 1827 fire burned most of Turku flat, but this hillside survived — and now its preserved wooden streets operate as an open-air handicrafts museum where artisans work in the actual buildings. Walking the narrow lanes feels less like visiting a museum and more like stepping through a crease in time. The workshops smell like wood shavings and leather. The scale is intimate, almost private. Every doorway frames a room where someone is making something by hand, and that hasn't changed in two centuries.
