Walking loops in Kakola, Turku

The former prison sits on the hill like a confession Turku decided to repurpose rather than demolish. Kakola is becoming a new district — apartments, restaurants, paths — but the old granite walls still radiate institutional severity. The panoramic views from the top are almost absurdly beautiful given the building's history. Walking up, you pass through layers of reinvention. The city sprawls below, the river curves, and you're standing where inmates once stood, seeing the same view with different freedom.
